Teachers As Instagram Influencers & More On CHOM FM

Posted by

Every Monday morning at 7:10 am, I am a guest contributor on CHOM 97.7 FM radio out of Montreal (home base). It’s not a long segment – about 10 minutes every week – about everything that is happening in the world of technology and digital media. The good folks at CHOM 97.7 FM are posting these segments weekly on i Heart Radio, if you’re interested in hearing more of me blathering away about what’s going on in the digital world. I’m really excited about this opportunity, because this is the radio station that I grew up listening to, and it really is a fun treat to be invited to the Mornings Rock with Terry DiMonte morning show. The segment is called, CTRL ALT Delete with Mitch Joel.

This week we discussed:

  • Sad to hear that Max Pacioretty is leaving Montreal, but excited for Las Vegas (they got him in a trade). He’s a great ambassador for the sport of hockey and knows how to treat his fans.
  • Here’s a spin on the Instagram Influencer world: teachers. Yes, teachers are moonlighting as Instagram Influencers. You may not think that this is a big deal, but some of these Insta-Influencers are turning their meager $50k annual salary into $250,000.
  • Facebook COO, Sheryl Sandberg, and Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey, went to Washington last week. What’s next? Regulation? How will these online social networks change quick enough? Are the bots taking over? How does Twitter decide who stays on the platform and who (like Alex Jones) goes? Are these platforms censoring conservative voices? And more…
  • This week, we will hear all about the future of Apple. Wednesday is the big day. New iPhones? It looks that way.
  • App of the Week: iLend.
