I’ve known [Shane Smith](http://www.vice.com/author/shane-smith “Shane Smith”) for over twenty years. Most people know Shane as the co-founder of [Vice](“http://www.vice.com “Vice”). We first met in the early nineties, when he was launching a local alternative publication called, Voice Of Montreal. This publication soon became Vice. I used to do some writing for them (back when I was, primarily, a writer about music and culture), and back when Vice was a very edgy national magazine. We probably hung out in bars many more times than I wrote for them, but that’s another story (never to be published). Shane (along with the other co-founders), soon left Montreal for New York. They are a juggernaut and everyone wants a piece of them.
