Bar None Does Not Deserve A First Chance… Let Alone A Second Chance

I could hardly believe my eyes. There I was watching TV when this commercial came on for 1-800-BAR-NONE (or Bar None) featuring the Pets.com sock puppet.
Get it?
Bar None will give you a second chance at getting a car loan, like they’ve given a second chance to the Pets.com sock puppet.
Oy vey.
This commercial was so hard and painful to watch. I actually made a decision to not put the company’s web address in this post because I don’t want them to benefit from any Google Juice (or link love).
This commercial is why people like Joseph Jaffe write books like Life After The 30-Second Spot. There are so many ways Bar None could have been clever with resurrecting the Pets.com sock puppet. I’m so sad about seeing this commercial that I can’t think of any right now.
As an aside, if you’re looking for how not to conceptualize script, produce, cast and execute a television commercial, this might prove to be the best case study.
You can check out the ad on YouTube here: 1-800-Bar-None Commercial #1.
Yes, that’s right, there are more than one.
