A Whole New Mind By Daniel H. Pink – Montreal Business Book Club February Selection

The February session of The Montreal Business Book Club is A Whole New Mind – Moving From The Information Age To The Conceptual Age by Daniel H. Pink. This discussion is taking play on Tuesday, February 28th, 6:30 pm at Twist Image.
Here’s how Dan Pink’s website describes A Whole New Mind:
“Lawyers. Accountants. Radiologists. Software engineers. That’s what our parents encouraged us to become when we grew up. But Mom and Dad were wrong. The future belongs to a very different kind of person with a very different kind of mind. The era of ‘left brain’ dominance, and the Information Age that it engendered, are giving way to a new world in which ‘right brain’ qualities-inventiveness, empathy, meaning-predominate. That’s the argument at the center of this provocative and original book, which uses the two sides of our brains as a metaphor for understanding the contours of our times.
In the tradition of Emotional Intelligence and Now, Discover Your Strengths, Daniel H. Pink offers a fresh look at what it takes to excel. A Whole New Mind reveals the six essential aptitudes on which professional success and personal fulfillment now depend, and includes a series of hands-on exercises culled from experts around the world to help readers sharpen the necessary abilities. This book will change not only how we see the world but how we experience it as well.”
In the spirit of the new year, I have decided to select several business books that made it to the “Best Of 2005” lists of many magazines and well-respected people as selections for upcoming Montreal Business Book Club sessions.
Dan Pink’s book, A Whole New Mind, is a terrific read. I saw Pink speak at the Canadian Marketing Association’s (CMA) Digital Marketing Conference 2005 in October and received a copy of his book then. I was a huge fan of his debut, Free Agent Nation, and figured he would have a hard time with a follow-up. Thankfully, I was wrong.
Just as a reminder, the upcoming January session of The Montreal Business Book Club is taking place on January 31st and we will be discussing The Ten Faces Of Innovation by Tom Kelley. You can read more about this session here: Montreal Business Book Club – The Ten Faces Of Innovation – January Date Set.
As always, everyone is free to join, but please RSVP by email to me and make sure to read this: The Montreal Business Book Club – A Primer.

Happy Reading.
