Six Links Worthy of Your Attention #488

Is there one link, story, picture or thought that you saw online this week that you think somebody you know must see?

My friends: Alistair Croll (Solve for Interesting, Tilt the Windmill, HBS, chair of Strata, Startupfest, FWD50, and Scaletechconf; author of Lean Analytics and some other books), Hugh McGuire (Rebus Foundation, PressBooks, LibriVox) and I decided that every week the three of us are going to share one link for one another (for a total of six links) that each individual feels the other person “must see.”

Check out these six links that we’re recommending to one another:

  • Stacked – Royal Sapien. “I didn’t send this for Mitch, because he doesn’t like EDM the way that I do. So here, Hugh—you get a dance mix. It’s a one-hour, 300-track mix by Royal Sapien. And it works. For fans of mixology, this is a serious accomplishment.” (Alistair for Hugh).
  • The Epidemic. “This made me feel a lot of things as a parent and a proponent of technology. You should watch it.” (Alistair for Mitch).
  • I Accidentally Uncovered a Nationwide Scam on Airbnb – Vice. “After a holiday disaster, some sleuthing uncovers an Airbnb grift using 100 phony properties across the USA.” (Hugh for Alistair).
  • Simple math is why Elon Musk’s companies keep doing what others don’t even consider possible – Quartz. “How does Elon Musk keep doing so many crazy things with so many crazy companies? He’s making electric cars, space rockets, giant underground trains, among other things. How does he do it?” (Hugh for Mitch).
  • How having the right kind of rival can help you thrive in a changing world – TED. Simon Sinek is back with a new book, The Infinite Game. And – as authors do – when they’re out promoting a new book, they tend to create even more thoughts/articles that can be published in places like TED. Well, this one really struck a chord with me. I hope it does with you as well. To improve and innovate, we don’t have to dominate the competition or crush others into pulp. We can simply find a worthy rival, and try to always improve and innovate on top of their strengths. Meaning, how do you play the infinite game with an infinite mindset? Who is your worthy rival?” (Mitch for Alistair).
  • So you want to be a writer? – Charles Bukowski – Poets.org. “I was recently looped into one of those old-school email chain letter games. Someone sends you a poem, then you send a poem of your choice on to twenty people (in BCC), and sit and wait to see what comes back to you. Normally that’s a hard pass for me, but I took the bait. The problem, of course, is that I don’t really like fiction, and have always struggled with poetry. Everyone except for writers like Charles Bukowski. I hit the old Google with the following search thread: “poetry charles bukowski writing.” This was the result. Maybe I do love poetry, after all?” (Mitch for Hugh).

Feel free to share these links and add your picks on TwitterFacebook, in the comments below or wherever you play.
